Hops Flavor Explorer and Aroma Wheel
The Explorer blends up to three hops, showcasing a range of flavors that include citrus, tropical, stonefruit, berry, melon, floral, herbal, spice, pine, resin, earth, and sulfur. Use it for beer, tea, or hop water.
How to use this tool:
Pick one to three hops. Leave columns blank to study a single hop.
Set ratios. The mini pie shows your split across A, B, and C.
Adjust intensity. Think “overall aromatic punch,” not bitterness.
Choose context and timing. Dry hop, whirlpool, hot tea, or cold steep nudge expression differently.
Toggle lot swing. The ring shows typical variability between lots.

What each axis means:
Citrus: lime to grapefruit, peel/zest emphasis
Tropical: mango, passionfruit, pineapple, guava
Stonefruit: peach and apricot
Berry: blueberry to blackcurrant
Melon: honeydew and cantaloupe
Floral: blossom and perfumed notes
Herbal: tea, lemongrass, fresh cut herbs
Spice: pepper, clove, anise
Pine: conifer tree character
Resin: sticky depth, hemp-like
Earth: woody, tea-like
Sulfur: diesel, gooseberry, faint onion/garlic
Quick pairing rules:
Backbone + top note: pine/resin base plus a bright citrus or tropical top note.
Complement vs. contrast: citrus + tropical for “juicy”; citrus + herbal for “crisp.”
Swaps within families: for lime try Citra/Motueka/Riwaka; for berry try Mosaic/Strata/Enigma.
FAQ
